It was a different feeling walking into those massive rooms. Inside a building abandoned for decades; frozen in a perfect state of neglect (not too much for visitors, but enough to creep you out).
Mansfield Reformatory is unique among all of the “save history with ghosts” buildings. They dot the United States of America. But unlike others, say West Virginia Pen and Trans Allegheny… this location is huge!
The 6-level high cell blocks are the tallest in the world. And you feel it, when being allowed to walk up to the 3rd level. I can’t imagine being one of the inmates at the top. They’re not only trapped in a cage but also with height. How they felt the quickest way down was a jump over the railing. It’s probably why they covered the open space with wiring.
