Beautiful Views
Not only is Queen Victoria Park itself gorgeous to look at, the prime real estate it sits on is also one of the best areas to hangout if you want a great view of:
- American and Canadian Falls, including during illumination at night
- Seasonal floral displays, including the blooming tulips of the spring
- Firework shows, which run nightly during the summer months
Brief History of Queen Victoria Park
Around 3 years after the then Premier of Ontario, Oliver Mowat, introduced the “Niagara Falls Park Act”. Was a way of helping preserve the beauty surrounding Niagara Falls.
It was then officially opened on May 24th, 1888 (Victoria Day, the birthday of Queen Victoria). That’s almost 140 years ago!
Originally consisting of 155 acres between the base of Clifton Hill and Dufferin Islands, the Niagara Parks Commission was established to maintain the park.
Today, Queen Victoria Park is full of picturesque gardens, wonderful views of both the Canadian and American Falls and is one of the main locations of the Winter Festival of Lights.
Why the Name?
The park is named after Queen Victoria!
When opened and named, Canada was still a member of the British Commonwealth. We didn’t gain legislative independence until 1982.
What’s Nearby
There are many attractions located within or very near to the park including:
- King George VI Statue
