Tom Thomson | Legend & Ghost Story from Canoe Lake, Algonquin

Algonquin Provincial Park was a protected forest in 1893.  Before the wilderness became famous for artists, it thrived as a logging centre.  With the Village of Mowat bustling along Canoe Lake’s shore.

Industry faded and the railway carried a new visitor, artists!

Bringing a painter named Tom Thomson in 1912.  With paintings that defined Algonquin’s mystery.  And he became one of the mysteries with his death in 1917.

Today, he’s remembered by sightings of a lone canoeist in the morning mist of Canoe Lake. This is the story of his death, his ghost and an attempt to clear up the rumours.

Stratford’s Most Interesting History | Riot & Thomas Edison

Long before Stratford, Ontario, Canada, became world-renowned for its theatre festival. The legendary Albion Hotel stood as the backdrop for some of the town’s most chaotic history and a connection to its short-term, famous resident, Thomas Edison.

Beloved by locals, the Albion was once used as a makeshift town hall.  Then etched its name into history due to an election riot.  Driven by a horrid defeat, local Conservative Thomas Mayne Daly sparked a street brawl.  With fights, bricks raining from the roof, and local women swinging rock-filled stockings.

Yet, bedlam was half of the tavern’s legacy.  Almost at the exact time, a 16-year-old boy named Thomas Edison moved into an apartment attached to the Albion. It was here the young, rule-breaking genius made one of the worst mistakes of his life.

Auchmar Mansion Ghost Hamilton | Failure of Isaac Buchanan

High atop Hamilton Mountain stands a mansion that could be considered its Castle. Auchmar Mansion — the gothic house of five gables — rose in 1854 as the personal achievement of the Honourable Isaac Buchanan.  A man whose impact on Hamilton rivaled the great figures of his era.

Merchant, civic leader, military founder, and visionary, Buchanan shaped Hamilton long before the modern skyline we see today.

Today, students at Mohawk College and patients at St. Joseph’s Hospital pass the quiet estate without realizing the land beneath their feet was once a centre of political power and early Canadian history.

But Auchmar is more than architecture and legacy. It is a symbol of Buchanan’s rise and fall, later abandoned as his fortunes collapsed.  Its halls once hosted prime ministers, princes, and rivals alike. Echoing with debates, celebrations, and what seems to be a little girl resident ghost.

Now, hidden behind overgrown trees, the mansion waits in silence. A relic of ambition, a survivor of eras, and a reminder that Hamilton Mountain’s history is deeper, stranger, and far more dramatic than most ever realize.

Toronto’s Guild Inn | Haunted Hotel in Scarborough’s Building Graveyard

High above the Scarborough Bluffs (Toronto), the Guild Inn began as a quiet 1914 summer estate before transforming into a rare blend of artists’ colony, architectural sanctuary, and wartime outpost.

Under Herbert and Rosa Clark, the property became home to creators.  And later a rescue site for fragments of Toronto’s demolished historic buildings.  Now the beautiful “building graveyard” in Guild Park.

But years of abandonment added a dark history.  When the house was boarded up in the early 2000s, it became a magnet for ghost hunters and urban explorers.

Reporting stories of spirits that remain in the building.
