Ghost Walks
A famed American surgeon named Dr. Walter Freeman created a special Lobotomy. This made him famous, then infamous. They called it the “ice pick lobotomy”.
This method did not need drilling. Instead entering the skull by use of a long, sharp pick slid through the eye-socket.
Built between 1858 and 1881 on the “Kirkbride Plan”. A plan based on modern cures. Kindness and morality. Trans Allegheny was setup to allow tons of sunlight and provide comfort.
Didn’t take long to screw this over.
After the ghost hunt we ended the night. Going through recordings over the next few days. It yielded another first for me. The EVP!
In case you don’t know. An EVP, or Electronic Voice Phenomenon. It’s ghost voices over tape. These are recordings said to pick up details the human ear cannot. Means the Merritt House was full of them.
Happened throughout the night at the Merritt House. A male energy from within the house harassed Kate. She and Michele asked for a name, and the thing only mocked them. We didn’t know it’d end in possession.
Said to call it, “Booger”.
A small investigation happened at the Merritt House in 2001. The events from this night changed the way I saw ghosts.
Changed the way they answered the question, “Can we investigate the house?”
St. Catharines in the Niagara Region has a rich history. One part which gets little notice… the city’s connection to the Underground Railway through Harriet Tubman and the Merritt House.
Ghost Guide Daniel – – The following experience happened to a customer. While using the second floor woman’s washroom inside Toronto’s Keg Mansion.
It’s very confusing. Why any ghost chooses to haunt a washroom.
Inside the haunted Keg Mansion of Toronto, Lillian was the only daughter of Hart Massey. She was educated at the Wesleyan Woman’s College in Hamilton (where the Royal Connaught is today). Eventually becoming Matriarch of the family and mistress of the house.
Dying in 1915. Only 6 years after her husband.
According to the infamous legend … the death of the Keg Mansion Maid happened just after Lillian’s death.

Strange thing to say about any historic and gothic structure. Looking from outside, you’d expect this house to be teaming with ghosts. We’re not saying this!
Ghosts are hard to come by in Auchmar Mansion due to the house’s history. Here’s a break down…
The lord of Auchmar was the Honourable Isaac Buchanan, who in turn had run-ins with Sir Allan MacNab (of Dundurn).
From friendly encounters in both stately homes. To competitive face offs over the love of Hamilton’s people. And one very public battle.
